Lithologic and paleogeographic reconstructions of Jurassic system in West Siberian sedimentary basin
DOI 10.31087/0016‑7894‑2018‑6‑35‑61
Jurassic formati ons of the northern West Siberian petroleum province, including the Kara depression, western part of Yenisei‑Khatanga trough, Gydan and Yamal peninsulas, and Nadym‑Taz interfluve, are considered on the basis of lithologic and paleogeographic studies. The results of lithologic and paleogeographic studies in this region are for the first time presented for the Jurassic system as a whole; each lithologic and paleogeographic map is accompanied by lithologic and paleogeographic cross‑secti on. In the first stage of lithologic regions identification, lithologic types of the secti ons were determined. Composition columns were created on the result of calculations. Paleogeographic domains were identified according to the combinati on of the following studies: lithologic (compositi on and rock structure); geochemical (Сorg content and Organic Matter types, carbon isotopic signature, value of N.M. Strakhov rati o Fepyr/Сorg, boron and gallium content in clay fracti on, etc.); and paleontological (chronological and biofacies analyses). This work also accounted for new above menti oned results of delineati on of lithologic regions, territories of uncompensated downwarping and clinoform structure of formations, as well as deposits’ thickness over the study area. The completed lithologic and paleogeographic reconstructions indicate that Jurassic sedimentary environments in the northern West Siberian basin have changed gradually with transgressive periodicity and with a trend of sedimentary basin expansion, and with expansion of deepwater marine areas. The results of lithologic and paleogeographic studies presented in the paper allow more reliable predicti on of distributi on of sand beds and reservoirs within them, and estimation of impermeable beds quality in the Jurassic oil and gas bearing formati ons of the northern West Siberian petroleum province.
